Bad Wars, and Bad Humans

I don't dispute that with 50,000 plus deaths, most of which came under LBJ, that Vietnam on a day-to-day basis was a greater human tragedy than Iraq and its current 963 deaths (and of course, those are just American deaths, Vietnam killed Southeast Asians in the millions, and has killed Iraqi's into the five figures).

BUT,

The thing I find less forgiveable about Bush, than I do about LBJ is that you had the knowledge that LBJ at least emotionally suffered over the war. You don't have that feeling of some humanity with Chimpy.

Classic Portrait of LBJ during Vietnam:

Can ANYONE imagine such a picture of George W. Bush at this moment worrying about what is happening in Najaf? Or last Spring when 140 troops died in a month?

Anybody?

Didn't think so.

No, the picture of Bush handling the gravity of American forces in harm's way is reflected in this, the embodiment of immature frivolity.

And saying declaring war "feels good."

LBJ may have been power-hungry and malicious about many things, but his fellow "Texan" is as shallow, callow, and craven as they come.
