Old Generals Don't Just Fade Away

Laura Rozen, a journalist who has written for the Nation, Village Voice, LA Times, and Boston Globe, among others, maintains a well-read blog. She recently posted an inquiry there requesting information about the U.S. Army's role in the Waco tragedy. Because several of us who are concerned about the misuse of the miltary in Iraq and other places like here in the United States should follow the subject of the role of then Col. Gerlad Boykin with interest.

As some of you may recall, then General Boykin got in hot water in 2003 for giving a fiery speech in his uniform to an evangelical group in which he described Islam as being "satanic" among other things. Despite this public laspse in common sense, Boykin was defended by Secretary of destruction Donald Rumsfeld who called him a "fine general." President Bush disavowed Boykins views. Boykin was also linked to the Abu Ghraib abuses. He's still around.
