One more thing on Kristol

The New York Times tour of shame continues. This line has been nagging at me in particular:

In the United States, individuals can choose to serve in the military or not. The choice not to serve should carry no taint, nor should it be viewed with the least prejudice.

Again, this strikes me as incredibly self-serving of Kristol (but then, what else is new?). But the reason it is particularly galling is that Kristol just two columns ago wrote this in assailing Obama for giving a commencement address in place of the ill Ted Kennedy:

But there’s one obvious path of service Obama doesn’t recommend — or even mention: military service. He does mention war twice: “At a time of war, we need you to work for peace.” And, we face “big challenges like war and recession.” But there’s nothing about serving your country in uniform.

The intellectual bankruptcy of "opportunism for any bash" for the Uriah Heep of American politics never fails to appall.
