Where Is Steve Gilliard When You Need Him?

Holy Crap!

We are having the wackiest year ever in New York politics. Every day there is news and every day, I find myself wondering, "What would Gilliard say?"

Anyway, today's twist is that Francis H. Powers, the guy the New York GOP finally convinced to run for disgraced families man Vito Fossella's seat, has died. Powers became the candidate only after a bunch of Republicans declined to run, the NY GOP twisted Powers' arm, and then Powers' son threatened to run against him on the Libertarian line, only to drop out suddenly, depriving us all of what promised to be a laugh-a-minute contest to fill Vito's very big shoes. I don't know who is left for the NY GOP to put up now.

Hey! There's at least one New York Republican who's bored and out of a job. Something tells me his wife won't be satisfied with living on Todt Hill, though.
