Some good news on the nobody could have anticipated front

Because they at least anticipated a little.

They found the 16-year old sailor who had issued the distress signal in the Indian Ocean -- though apparently she hasn't bee "rescued" as of yet.

Still makes it a really dumb idea to have a 16-year old sail around the world alone just to prove she can.

Because apparently she couldn't, no fault of hers, just not very unexpected. It's a terrible idea for anyone to do this, let along a teenager (though, to be honest it'd be kind of awesome to make Dick Cheney give it a try).

Her older brother sailed around the world solo at 17. You can guess what kind of sibling rivalry is going on there.

If your interested in around the world solo sailing tragedy you can watch 'Deep Water' on Netflix.

I recommend using the Panama and Suez canals and staying out of the southern oceans. The Somali pirates could be a problem.

For Attaturk I recommend starting small and sailing across Iowa first.

We could lash Cheney to the mast. Just a thought.

Couldn't you imagine him snarling and cursing all across the seven seas, giving sailors a bad name.

In the LA Times article about her rescue, her dad said that the family is very very religious and they prayed like crazy for guidance before letting her go.

And once again, I'm shocked! shocked I tell you when the result of all that intense prayer is....."God" telling them exactly what they want to hear.

Cheney could well be the flying dutchman, sailing aimlessly and endlessly in the sargasso sea with the mast up his ass in a repetitive Wagnerian echo vox
