It just gets worse

Just how many "units" are there at this nuclear plant? Everyday seems to bring a new round of fail. Now there's been a fire at the No. 4 reactor. Here's a great conversation thread which includes an expert on such matters (which will obviously be better than CNN's use of a security guy and Bill Nye -- who while he's awesome is NOT truly an expert on the particulars of this matter).

And everyone has been evacuated withing a 20km radius.

The reaction in America, of course, as stated by Atrios yesterday, will likely to be a push to build reactors in everyone's back yard.

Anyone with any concern about this matter, however, remember. First, you are by definition not a "serious person" by being concerned so let our "serious" people figure it out.

We'll call it the David Broder Nuclear Power Policy.

Well, in this country the only people's health to be concerned about are the richest 1%. And they certainly won't be living near a nuclear reactor. What's to worry? And besides, the Teapublicans are on top of this by expanding the class of expendable citizens to act as buffers to absorb the radiation.

(And whatever chemicals end up in the drinking water once they rid the nation of the EPA and environmental law.)

Here is what I think of in all this. They have 6 reactors there. Do you think they have the personnel, supplies and equipment to handle all 6 or is it more likely they only planned on having a couple go bad at once.

What I see in my minds eye is that old vaudeville act of a guy spinning plates on sticks. He gets a bunch of plates spinning and has to run from plate to plate until he couldn't keep up & plates started crashing - all to the tune of "Russian Saber Dance"

I thought seawater might cool those reactors off.
Usually works for millions of plain folks on hot days at the beach.
Lots of seawater available at a tsunami's notice.
