The real question is

When will somone start charging you for using cash? Perhaps when the Teapartiers manage to start forcing us to carry around gold doubloons?

Can't do cash only for internet purchases. That's good for local businesses, though.

I think the thing to do is move your money out of national/regional banks and put it in local credit unions. At least the fees stay in the local economy.

I would guess this debit card charge could piss a few ostensibly powerful people off. Like Jeff Bezos maybe.

I don't drink. But I know they take credit cards only in the air. That way they don't have to screw around with change. I do about 60,000 miles a year to Asia.

Can't buy food without a card either. However, after security and before you board you could use cash at the duty free store. Or buy food in one of the delicious establishments on the concourse.
